Virginia Celebrates Korean American Day

General Assembly recognizes the 4th anniversary

Richmond, VA (January 13, 2011) - Delegate Tim Hugo (VA-40) announced his bill on the floor of the Virginia House of Delegates that today marks the 4th anniversary of Korean American Day in Virginia.  In 2007, The General Assembly passed House Joint Resolution No. 632 which subsequently recognizes January 13th as Korean American Day in Virginia.

The resolution commends Korean Americans for demonstrating initiative, creativity, and an affinity for hard work that has made them an essential part of American society.  In addition, it commends Korean Americans for making major contributions in all aspects of American life, including medicine, business and the arts.

Many Korean Americans have proudly served the United States with honor and bravery in World War I, World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War and every subsequent conflict. After a century of great success in the United States, Korean Americans continue to make vital contributions to the freedom, prosperity, and quality of life enjoyed by all Americans.

Delegate Hugo also made a point to recognize Korean American Delegate Mark Keam (VA-35), for his strong efforts to help advance the Korean American community in Virginia and in faithfully serving the Commonwealth of Virginia.

On behalf of Delegate Mark Keam and himself, Delegate Hugo moved "that when the House adjourn today, that we do so in honor of all Korean Americans who have contributed so much to our country."  The motion was unanimously approved by the House of Delegates.
